Fandom: Compilation of FF7
Character: Jirou Hojo
Open for crossovers? Yes
Appearance:
Were Hojo to stand up straight, he would be around 5′8, but he’s gained a bit of a stoop in his later years. And the years have not been kind, wrinkles creasing around his eyes and forehead, though there is a conspicuous lack of laugh lines, replaced by the deeper frowning ones. He’s grown out his hair, falling a little past his shoulders and usually pulled back in a low tail to stay out of the way. Rounded glasses set under severe brows often catch the light, obscuring a calculating dark gaze.
As he spends most of his time in the lab, he wears a calf-length labcoat over a plain button up shirt and dress slacks, a dark tie one of the few loose pieces of clothing and occasionally removed if it is in danger of getting in the way.
Personality:
Hojo is extremely intelligent, and interested only in the pursuit of advancing science - with the singular exception of his obsession with Sephiroth. He’s a pessimistic introvert with a bone dry, occasionally morbid sense of humor but will permit interaction he finds intellectually stimulating or inspires a rare moment of nostalgia. He sees himself as a coolly logical person and attempts to divorce himself from emotion, something he’s never understood or acted with on a healthy level.
Backstory:
Born the son of a doctor in southern Wutai, Hojo spent early life fascinated by his father’s profession. Academics came easily, though he had little patience for anything else, pressing himself to graduate early and moving out to Junon to attend the university. His studies spanned through biology, bioengineering and the early mako sciences as ShinRa was slowly coming into its own.
Main Verses:
V: The Good Doctor (Pre-Games)
Hojo received doctorates in Mako Science and Bioengineering from Junon University while working for ShinRa under the wing of the then-head of the Science Department, Gast Faremis.
His half of the Jenova Project was stationed in Nibelheim, where he continued operations even after the fight with and murder of Vincent Valentine and the disappearance of his project partner and wife, Lucrecia Crescent.
Eventually, operations are moved to Midgar shortly before Hojo tracks Gast down, having him murdered when he resists arrest by ShinRa troops and taking his place as the head of the Science Department. He takes over all of Gast’s projects, scrapping a few, and maintains his prime focus on Sephiroth’s development even when SOLDIER is created.
V: The Professor (Before Crisis/Crisis Core)
While SOLDIER is run day in and day out by Lazard, there is no denying the heavy influence of the Science Department, particularly on any medical situations as they may come up. Hojo continues to primarily oversee Sephiroth, delegating the bulk of the others to his underlings and giving himself time to explore other projects. Vastly uninterested in the majority of ShinRa’s ongoings, he is most content when left to do his own thing without interruption and can be very difficult for even the President himself to arrange meetings with.
Roleplay Notes:
Content Warnings: General warning that Hojo is a miserable excuse for a human being. I don't rp gore, but by nature of the characters there will be implications of... unsavory behavior.
Shipping: Only with Lucrecia, unless there's some extreme chemistry, which is highly unlikely from him.

It was there that he was discovered by Gast Faremis, a man who would become his mentor, bringing him into the company a few short years before the discovery of Jenova and the resulting projects that would change the world.
The President wanted his Promised Land, and Hojo was willing to play into the fantasy while he continued his own projects. For all that was lost - Valentine killed in a fit of rage, Lucrecia becoming unstable before vanishing without a trace, and Gast killed in cold blood - he still counted himself the victor. His world reshaped itself with Sephiroth at the center, and would remain so for the rest of his life.
