Fandom: Dewprism (Threads of Fate)
Character: Fancy Mel
Open for crossovers? Yes
Appearance:
There’s a lot about Mel ready to draw the eye; when first meeting her, in fact, people are almost always a little overwhelmed. A large pink beret perches on strawberry blonde hair, a plush rabbit face on the top flopping long white ears over to the top of her bangs, and a massive green bow falling past the two large curls she pulls her hair into at the middle of her back. Part of her bangs have grown out into thick spirals, framing a face that looks quite youthful at a glance.
Timeless. Ageless.
Her fair skin has a youthful flawlessness, but there’s something off. Her deep blue eyes have a depth and intensity that most people can’t stare into for long. Far easier to look at the pink ribbon around her neck, with its amethyst charm, or the matching stones embedded into the pink cuffs of the cream colored long sleeve shirt she wears. It’s the same pink as the beret, the same as the suspenders and the skirt that falls down just above her knees. The same as the slight heels she wears, adding a couple inches to her petite 5′3. Girlish, lacy socks add a delicate touch, matching the fine, cream silk gloves she wears.
At any given time, her flying kits might be bobbing around her, little gold creatures in the shape of cats’ heads with batlike wings. The nickname Fancy Mel has been well earned.
Personality:
There’s a bit of whimsy in most magical beings, but Mel is outright indulgent in her own. She does things when she pleases, as she pleases, and good luck moving her in any direction. While she mostly keeps to herself, she finds people intriguing on an individual level and doesn’t mind occasional company. Fortunately, considering her power, she is very mild mannered and easy going.
Backstory:
They call her Fancy Mel, and she’s been living in Carona Forest for as long as living memory can reach. Stories passed down for generations talk of a powerful sorceress, hundreds of years into the past. To look at her, she’s not that old. Not until you look closer, and see the depth to tranquil blue eyes. There’s something there, something Other.
A thousand years ago, powerful magicians called Aeons ruled the world. They had the power to move mountains at will, some so powerful that they were rumored to move the stars in the heavens. But despite their incredible powers, the Aeons died out, leaving nothing but their [relics] and stories behind. Or so it’s said.
A thousand years ago, Melodia watched the other Aeons begin to die out and knew that was a fate she didn’t want for herself. So she changed. Sacrificed some of her power for longevity and distanced herself from her peers.
Centuries passed, and she resurfaced in the East Heaven Kingdom in time to take the role of an advisor to the royal family. She gifted them Atenacius’ [relic], the Book of Cosmos, under the understanding that they would watch over Valen’s ruins and never allow the Dewprism to be found.
She settled in Carona Forest during Elroy’s rise to power and ended it just as swiftly when he attacked Wylaf in an attempt to gain supplies to recover the Dewprism. She watched generations of mages and treasure hunters try - and fail, often fatally - to get Valen’s [relic].
By the time Rue and Mint showed up, the Aeon Melodia was lost to obscurity, and the sorceress Fancy Mel was a fixture in local lore longer than anyone could remember. And at long last, it was time for the Dewprism to be uncovered, whether she liked it or not. The least she could do was attempt some damage control.
Main Verses:
V: In Plain Sight (Pre-Game)
Mel moved to live in the forests around Carona hundreds of years ago, well before Elroy and his apprentices attempted to take over the area. She lives quietly, sending her Poppul Purrels in to town to shop for her, unless she needs something more than Carona has to offer. On those rare instances, she’s been known to take a ship out. Rarely, she has crossed into the East Heaven Kingdom, where the other mages instinctively give her wide berth. Ages ago, she was an advisor to one of the early kings, the one who had seen to it that the royal line would protect Valen’s [relic], but that has long since been forgotten.
Content to live quietly, largely dismissed as a “crazy witch” by the locals despite her power, Mel continues to keep an eye on the [relic]. Just in case.
V: Facing the Past (During the Game)
After so many years watching people trying to get Valen’s [relic] without success - some even leading to their deaths - Mel can feel the winds of change blowing. She wouldn’t call it Mint’s fate to be the one to unlock the secrets of the Dewprism, but Rue… she recognized him instantly for what he was, even if he was unaware himself. The time had come to face Valen’s legacy, whether the world was ready or not. The least she could do was attempt a little damage control.
V: Beyond Duty (Post-Game)
With the Dewprism out of reach for now, Mel no longer needs to stay in Carona. She travels more, mostly to the East Heaven Kingdom to get a feel for what passes for a high class magician these days.
She is not often impressed, but some are promising. It’s almost enough to make her consider taking an apprentice on at long last. She has yet to feel even the briefest touch of time weighing against her, but it would be nice to have a legacy of her own.
Roleplay Notes:
Content Warnings: Possible canon-typical violence.
Shipping: Difficult, but possible with chemistry.
