She sent him back. After everything they’d been through together, Zelda sent him back, and Link was faced with a peaceful world in a body that still had the roundness of baby fat and a soul that had been forced to live through horrifying things no child should ever know.

It was hard enough, what he’d done already, but to live the years the sages had stolen from him in a world where no one else could possibly understand? Where he felt a keen loss of his own sense of self and had no comfort? He didn’t belong in Hyrule, not this one, not after everything… and once Navi left, he couldn’t make himself stay.
With Epona at his side, Link packed up and left the kingdom he’d sacrificed his past and future for, in hopes of finding somewhere he could fit in.
