Roleplay Sheet: Sheik/Zelda, Legend of Zelda OoT
Fandom: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Character: Sheik, Zelda
Open for crossovers? Yes
Appearance: Zelda
Zelda stands at 5′5, an athletic build largely camouflaged by her dress. The white gown matches long gloves that go up past her elbows, both embroidered in silver and rose gold. Over top, a violet bodice covers most of her torso, hanging lower in the back to cover part of her hips and backside. A gold chain belt holds a banner with the royal crest and the triforce symbol, gold and sapphire echoed up in her necklace, earrings, tiara, and pauldrons.
Her coloring differs from Sheik’s, fair skinned and blue eyed, with darker blonde hair. It’s just as long, pulled back into a low tail, with two thick sections left to frame her face. They’re bound in white ribbon much like Sheik’s, though the metal tips are much smaller than the one at the end of his ponytail.
Appearance: Sheik
Sheik began as an illusion, but became just as real and valid a form as Zelda had ever been. He stands at 5′7, leanly built with clear muscle definition, especially to his arms from long hours of archery practice. Most of his body is hidden by a close fitting suit of patched blue leather, white cotton strips wrapping around his thighs and wrists. More, thinner strips of cotton bandaging wraps around his fingers, leaving only the tips bare. A wrap around his head keeps his hair down, the length of it held in a tightly braided tail, the end of which is wrapped in white ribbon that ties off with a sharp silver spike.
Blond bangs frame the little you can see of his tanned skin, partially obscuring deep ruby eyes. Everything below his nose is hidden by a cowl, the same white cotton bundled up. Beneath it, the banner of the Sheikah hangs down his chest, like a brand of the people he represents.
Personality:
While there are certainly differences in the two identities, they have core traits that remain solid common identifiers - a deep calmness, dignity, and grace have all been trained in, combining with a dry sense of humor once they feel able to be more open.
Backstory:
When Zelda’s bodyguard Impa helped the young princess of Hyrule escape from Ganondorf, she was taken into hiding where she was trained to fill a new role. No longer the Princess, Zelda became Sheik, heir to the Sheikahs instead of the throne of Hyrule.
While Sheik never forgot his* life as Zelda, his life and identity had shifted irreversibly. Training was no longer just theory and magic, but long days of bladework and archery. Seven years waiting, and he was honed into a sleek, deadly fighter only to have to stand aside when Link returned.
No grudges were ever held, Sheik was grateful to have the hero of time back, but when the battles were done… there was a broken world, and he was expected to put her crown on and deal with it.
Sometimes, Zelda dreams about those years. She remembers the feel of bandaged hands and a cowl to hide her expressions in. She plays the part she was born for, her own heroine’s role finally unfolding in the aftermath, but part of her deep down will always be Sheik.
*They are genderfluid
Main Verses:
V: The Heir (pre-game/child timeline)
Zelda is but a child, in training to be the next ruler of Hyrule. She is just beginning to come into her powers, including prophetic dreams and magic that Impa is doing her best to train her to use properly.
V: Seven Years Lost (OoT, Link’s missing years)
Princess Zelda could not afford to be found by the newly minted King Ganondorf. Desperate to protect her, Impa helped her learn to craft a new persona, hidden within illusionary magics to appear different enough that she would never be found.
This was the birth of Sheik.
Sheik was trained in the ways of the Sheikah by Impa, a quick study that grew up to be all lean muscle in silence and shadows. In a way, he was reborn.
V: The Hero Returns (adult timeline)
There were no words for the relief Sheik felt at the end of seven years, when the Hero of Time was released back into the world. Though he didn’t often get to see Link, those moments always warmed him. To finally feel the sages begin to awaken, to feel things finally start to change for the better, was almost surreal. He only wished he could do more.
It felt like a waste, being trained to fight but unable to truly join Link’s side, even though he knew why he had to be kept separate. For now, he would continue to support Link from the shadows.
V: Picking up the Pieces (post-game)
After Link defeated Ganondorf, an uneasy peace descends on Hyrule. For Sheik, this also means having to return to being Princess Zelda, a weight that has never weighed heavier on his shoulders.
It is important work, being Zelda. Being the Princess and becoming the Queen Hyrule needs with the death of her father, trying to put a ruined country back together while helping the Zora and Gorons, and trying to create a fragile peace with the remaining Gerudos.
But in her heart of hearts, she can’t help but miss the freedom of being Sheik. If Link hasn’t gone back to the past, he is often sought out just to try and recapture the different sort of strength and confidence of being Sheik.
Roleplay Notes:
Sidenote: Due to Sheik presenting as male and Zelda decidedly female, I write Sheik/Zelda as genderfluid.
Content Warnings: Canon-typical violence
Shipping: Yes, with chemistry.
